Event Details

The Gaia Community cordially invites you to join us for the Longest Night Ball, December 17th, 2011.   Enjoy music, dance, food and entertainment inspired by a steampunk/Victoriana aesthetic this year, as well as our traditional pageant honoring the transition from frozen winter to much-anticipated spring.

This is a costumed event - traditional masquerade finery, formal or semi-formal attire with mask or face-paint, or anachronistic fashion are equally welcome.  A costume contest will reward the best steampunk attire, as well as the best non-steamy costume ensemble.  Light refreshments, non-alcoholic drinks and tipsy punch will be available. Alcohol may be brought and consumed in moderation by guests. Because of this and the lateness of the event's schedule, we must require that all guests at the ball be at least 18 years of age (and of course 21 to drink alcohol). We will gladly hold your keys for you at the check-in table if you ask.

Gaia Community is a Welcoming Congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association.  The Longest Night Ball is safe and welcoming space for people of all genders and sexual orientations.

Gaia Community

Gaia Community is an Earth-based, Pagan Unitarian Universalist congregation holding weekly Sunday services in the Kansas City area since 1997. We are a diverse group of people united by a reverence for Nature, a need for community, and a profound curiosity about the world around us. We welcome families of all description, offering programming for adults, children, and teens.

Our congregation is founded on the model of shared ministry: our Sunday rituals, classes, and discussion groups are lay-led and participatory; KidSpace, our "Sunday School" program is designed and facilitated by volunteers sharing their own knowledge as well as prepared curriculum; and our congregation supports and develops member-run Covenant Groups to support the spiritual and practical interests of smaller groups within the congregation.

Gaia welcomes all who share our values and our commitments, regardless of age, race, color, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual or affectional orientation, or disability. In October of 2008, we recieved official status as a Welcoming Congregation within the Unitarian Universalist Association; the official recognition comes after more than ten years of opening our doors and our hearts to everyone, whoever they are and whomever they love.
